Technology-Enhanced Professional Learning

SSeLF Challenge 4 event, Learning for the Future

We had an excellent presentation and discussion from George Siemens today during our Challenge 4 SSeLF event at Caledonian Academy, Glasgow Caledonian University. Despite travel problems, around 20 people attended

the event and around 50 colleagues, in Europe, Australasia, Asia and America,
participated through streaming or twitter. The event ‘trended’ in Twitter in
Glasgow. Tweets can be viewed using #TEPL.

You can view the recording of George Siemen’s presentation here: http://gcal.emea.acrobat.com/p94698893/

We had very interesting discussions in the afternoon and some of the key messages the participants came up with in the end were:

  1. Open up educational resources
  2. Widen out debate discussion on Connections, Clouds, Things, and Analytics
  3. Think of how to radically change professional learning/staff development in higher education to
    embrace these ideas
  4. Think about the skills/ competencies and mindsets required of academics for future learning
  5. Move away from the 'one size fits all' IT model
  6. Change the mindsets of academics required for future learning
  7. Find ways to implement and use learning analytics
  8. Rethink assessment - not just content but the 'form' of assessment as well
  9. Make sure organisational change is constant (eg. continual professional learning)
  10. Consider the necessity of digital literacy and what this means for the intelligent
    curriculum

We would appreciate your comments and thoughts on the session as well. You can leave comments to this blog post.

Especially for the people who attended the full day event or who viewed the presentation video-In what ways do you think the concepts discussed relate to your practice and your work?

Hi

Thanks for the link to the replay.  I'm looking forward to watching it, however when clicking on the link I am asked for Outlook log in details which I don't have.

Can you help?

Dear David and all,

I hope the video access is fixed now. Please let me know if it works for you, and if not I will try to find other ways to upload it.

Dane
